What are the eligibility requirements for an Australia Subclass 500 Student Visa?

26/09/2023

The Australia Subclass 500 Visa is a student visa that allows international students to study full-time at registered educational institutions in Australia. It is one of the most common visas for international students pursuing various levels of education. The duration of the visa depends on the length of your course.

This visa typically allows students to stay for the entire course, with some additional time for graduation and to prepare to leave Australia. In most cases, students can include spouse and dependent children in their visa application. International students holding this visa are generally allowed to work up to 40 hours per fortnight while their course is in session and unlimited hours
during scheduled course breaks.

As of September 2023, the eligibility requirements for an Australia Subclass 500 Student Visa typically include the following:

1 Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) - You must be enrolled in a full-time course registered on the CRICOS.

2 Evidence of English language requirement (IELTS, PTE, Cambridge English, OET) On 26 July 2023, the TOEFL internet-based test (TOEFL iBT) stopped offering English language tests for Australian visa purposes. A score for a TOEFL iBT test taken on or after 26 July 2023 will no longer satisfy the English language requirement for Student visa purposes. Only TOEFL iBT scores from a
test taken on or before 25 July 2023 are accepted for Student visa purposes.

3 Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) from an approved Australian Insurance provider - You must have health insurance for the whole of your stay in Australia.

4 Prove that you have sufficient funds for your tuition fees, living expenses, and other related costs ($23041)- You must have enough money to pay for your stay in Australia. Living costs vary throughout Australia and may be higher than what is needed for your visa application.

5 Be a Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) - You must intend to return to your home country after your studies in Australia.

6 Meet character requirements.

7 Meet the health requirement - Undergo health examination from an approved panel doctor upon receiving HAP ID.

8 You have not had a visa cancelled, or a visa application refused.
